My Most Wonderous 18th Birthday!

Awesome things that happened during my birthday:

-My fellow Latin II students attempted to find the Latin version of "Happy Birthday" so they could sing it to me--unfortunately, the attempt failed. They tried, though.

-My Mom took me to open my first checking account.

-My most wonderful sister gave me some egg nog and Halloween peeps! (see some suppercalifragilisticexpialidocious peeps below!)

-My friend Allie came over & gave me a bag of Twix!

-My friend Patti came over & gave me a Sonic blast!

-I received e-cards, e-mails, & comments from friends & family with birthday wishes throughout the day! (& even today, the day after)

-My Dad gave me flowers!

-Relatives sent me presents!

-Mom got me Ben & Jerry's ice cream!

-My family got me a CD player/radio/tape player (with a remote)!

Over all, I just feel blessed!

Sleeping and other time-consuming hobbies

On another note, tomorrow is my birthday! I'm excited!

Tonight, since Hannah's going to be gone at her Bible quiz thing tomorrow night, we had my birthday meal tonight. Dad made pizza. (yummm) Then they surprised me with a birthday cookie and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. LOL

Tomorrow should be fun. :)

Birthday Anticipation

Well, there's less than two weeks until my birthday! AHH!

I will be 18 years old--can you believe it? (I sure can't--and neither can my mom. LOL) I don't feel ready to be an adult!

Oh, well, I'm still excited! I love my birthday! [Okay, who doesn't?] Birtdays are so fun...

There are two bummers to my birthday, though:

1. My birthday happens during breast cancer awareness month (pink! pink everywhere! AHHH!!!). What kid says, "I want to have my birthday in October because it's breast cancer awareness month"? I mention this bummer pretty much every year, though.

2. This year, my birthday falls on the same day that I'm having my first chemistry exam. I know! IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT!!!

I'm still very excited about my birthday! YAY!

Birthdays are so fun--it's that one day a year that's YOURS. The day when people come up to you and say, "Happy Birthday!" or they find out it's your birthday and say, "Oh, really? Well, happy birthday!" When I had my 15th[?] birthday, it was on the same day as game night. It was so cool. They all sang happy birthday to me and I felt so special even though it's always (for some reason) embarrassing for people to sing happy birthday to you.

Things I've Done During My 16th Year

Since today is my last day as a 16 year old, I thought I'd post about the things I've done during my time of being 16.

-I saw someone swallow a sword for the first time (one of the guys in Team Rootberry).

-went through several hairstyles (but since when is that something new? LOL)

-I finished 10th grade and started 11th grade

-I travelled 1/2 the world--okay not really--over the summer. (I did go to: New Jersey, New York, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and Illinois--I think that's it.)

-I spent, I think, 11 days with my friend Allie and her family in their new house. (I'd never been away from my family that long before but it was fun.)

-played in the rain for the first time [Nebraska]

-learned how to groom a horse (Nebraska)

-went to Big Splash over the summer a handful of times (I could have gone more if I hadn't been trying to be a world-traveler)

-I started going to Writer's Bloc at my church, which has been really awesome.

-I became the H.S. yearbook club leader.

-went to/played in the ocean for the first time [New Jersey]. (Found out that, strange enough, the ocean is salty! Imagine that! It's nasty...)

-went up in a lighthouse [New Jersey]

-went out to support the family of a fallen soldier (that was very rewarding. it felt really good.)

-realized that I have more friends than I thought.

-realized how truly awesome it is to be homeschooled.

-volunteered at the John 3:16 Mission for 2-3 days this summer. (AND I survived!)

-made new friends.

-got my driver's permit
-decided that I would like some sneakers [you know, the ones with the white toes. I want black or red]

The Eve of my Birthday Eve!

Tomorrow will be my last day as a 16-year-old. I'm excited about my birthday. It doesn't really feel like it's almost my birthday. The only birthday cards I've gotten so far have been from State Farm and another one saying I needed to be vaccinated [yeah, it said something basically like "happy birthday! It's time to come get vaccinated!"]. That was a bummer...


I don't know I'm just not FEELING it, you know?


Oh, well, I'm going to have a wonderful birthday. :) My Dad, Mom, sister, and myself [of course] will be going to Red Robin--where they have the best burger ever! Then, I think, we're coming home and we'll probably watch the movie "Transformers". That will be fun.

Tomorrow (my birthday eve), I'm going to this thing called "operation Christmas child" [I think]. It's with our homeschool group and I'll be making the yearbook page for it. Then tomorrow night will be H.S. game night. (YAY!!! I love teen game night!)

Yippee! It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Lucky me--my birthday is in breast cancer awareness month. It's just...wonderful. There's pink everywhere. And I don't even really like pink--unless it's with black. [<--of course. ;) ]

WHY!

Why does OCTOBER have to be breast cancer awareness month?! What's with that?! I'm so tired of hearing about "breast cancer awareness".

Just leave me alone!

Why does breast cancer have to have its own month anyway? Why does ANY cancer have to have its own month? If we're going to have a month for all the sicknesses--we could have chicken pox awareness month, flu awareness month, mad cow awareness month, etc. [If we already have these, be sure to tell me.]

It's like being cursed! "So when's your birthday?" "It's in breast cancer awareness month." "Oh. Huh." Patti's brother, Ron [who is in Iraq right now so pray for him] has his birthday in black history month. (Poor guy.) You know I googled to see if there was "American history month"--no such luck. I found black history month and indian history month. I think I also found German history month and women's history month. [No, guys you don't get men's history month--not that that's all that surprising with all this PC crud.]

So why can't people just be proud to be Americans and have American history month? I mean black people, indians, Germans, and women are lovely and all but this is the big melting pot, you know? Plus, if you're going to have a certain people group get their own month--where's it going to end? What about the Italians, the English, the Jewish, the Russians, the French, and the list goes on. I mean, we only have SO many months in a year (12 to be exact)! We can't fit that many people in one year! Maybe we should lengthen the timeframe to 2 years so everyone gets a chance. (What about the Welsh?! Geez, people!) Or maybe this is a thing to try to get people to share, who knows?

I don't know, it just doesn't seem quite right. It's great to know what different countries your ancestors came from and to celebrate it (my ancestors came from Germany, Wales, and Ireland, by the way) but do you really need a MONTH to figure all that stuff out? Do you really need someone to come to you and say, "it's German history month so you better learn your history!" Oh, thank God for German history month or I would never learn my German history! (<--sarcasm was intended there.) NOOOOO!!! I just found out that October is also "Islamic History and Pride Month". AHHHHHHHHH!!!! WHY ME!!! Why does October have to be the Islamic month? I was so in love with October and now they're just trying to go and ruin it for me. Yeah, this is just GREAT. :(

Funness...

So...Wednesday we go to New Jersey! I'm really excited--really, we all are. It's going to be awesome. It's supposed to be rainy for the first week, I think so we got some umbrellas for the trip. I really like mine--it's black with rainbow [lots of different colored] polka-dots. I think it's so cool! My parents almost got me a fadora [a kind of hat] but they decided to have me choose between getting the umbrella or the hat and...well, like I said I got the umbrella so I guess you know which one I chose. Anyways...
The rest of this post is about a surprise birthday party that I took part in yesterday [Saturday] for a girl who's in my Writer's Bloc group at my church. Her name is Juliane and Saturday was her birthday. The leader of the group [Mrs. Hansen] organized the whole thing pretty much. What happened was Mrs. Hanson brought Juliane to Cold Stone Creameries where we [me and some other people in the writer's group] were waiting. When Juliane came inside, we all said "surprise!" I think what Juliane's response was [other than a look of shock] was, "This is the best surprise EVER!" So we got ice cream...which was VERY good [I got cake batter ice cream with Crunch pieces all in it]. Then us "younger people", me, Juliane [of course], Danyelle [she's going to Rhema's school and does NOT like chocolate], and T [a nice guy who is cool enough to open the door for us girls] went to the movie theater to see "Shrek 3". Shrek 3 was very good. After that, we went to this barbeque place, ate, and had cake. That was pretty much it. We had lots of fun and...it was great! [It made me feel very teenagery--no, that isn't a real word.]

My Lovely Sister's Blog!!!

Hello, everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a long while. Things have just...been happening.

First of all, I wanted to make you all aware that now my lovely sister, Hannah has a blog of her own! www.hannahwolf.blogspot.com [She loves wolves.] Also, if you ever want to visit it again you can just scroll down on the side of my blog and click "Hannah's Blog". I'm excited for her because I love blogging. =)

Also, this weekend is both Hannah's 12th birthday [can you believe it?] and when we go to the ranch. I'm excited!

Us "jr. leaders" in Regals [the group that we're going to the Ranch with] are going to be the first ones to ride the horses! We're going to go down to the barn and prepare the horses and then ride them to where the children will "board" them. I'm SO excited! I'm a little nervous because I've never "prepared" a horse before. LOL Don't worry--I'll take lots of pictures at the ranch. How could you ever doubt me? ;-)

Also, I'm happy about my story [Lexicon]. The other day I was having a case of "writer's block". Well, then I watched an episode of the t.v. show "Lost", which by the way you can watch on the website for free, and on it one of the characters was Goth. [I've always had a fascination with Goths--perhaps because of my fascination with wearing black. LOL] While watching it, I had an idea--what if instead of my main character [Nikky] being the "popular girl", why don't I have her be Goth? I thought it was such a cool idea...but then I realized that I'd have to rewrite the entire storyline. Plus, having her be Goth, well, it would just change the entire structure of the story and the main girl would be going on a completely different journey. And that had been the entire point of the story was the journey that the "popular girl" goes on. Okay, maybe you didn't have to know that but I'm just kind of proud of myself that I kept myself from making that mistake. Maybe in a future book, the main character can be Goth...

Well, this has been a long post so I will be done for now.

GUESS WHAT?!?!

It's Elijah Wood's birthday!!!

Okay, I know my priorities are way off but he is handsome and he played Frodo in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy!!! [For those of you who don't know, "Lord of the Rings" is one of my favorite movies.] I don't have as much of a crush on him now as I used to [especially after learning some things about him that I don't like at ALL] but it's FRODO and I did USED to have a big crush on him. For those of you who haven't seen Lord of the Rings [which is EXTREMELY terrible because you MUST see LOTR!] you may have seen him on Oliver Twist [1997] as the Artful Dodger, Deep impact [1998], or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind [2004].
