This past Friday night I went to this western-them party with my homeschool group. I had a great time. The day before the party my mom and I began to search frantically for cowboy/girl clothes, hoping not to be one-upped by all of the homeschooling moms who were probably sewing elaborate outfits for their children (there was going to be a contest for who was the best-dressed). We finally found some--Thanks, Mom!
After the spam-carving contest we went outside to play horse shoes, the game where you tried to rope this plastic head of a bull, and one where we used slingshots to hit these bottles they had set up. I'm no good at things that involve throwing things. Most of the night I hung out with Melissa, Melissa (yes, there are two Melissas), Erica, Jeremy, and Caleb or John. I followed them (later on) to the part of the yard where they would be playing horseshoes. I stood on the steps (still on the porch) leading into the yard for a while. Then I started walking down the steps, in my denim skirt, mind you, when I suddenly tripped on the skirt and fell to the ground. They (the group I described earlier) saw what happened. Caleb, who stood right in front of me, said, "Are you OK?" I should have pretended to have been hurt a lot more than I was so that I would have gotten more attention needing help to get around than when I fell down the steps. I was more embarrassed than anything. I said I was fine. Both of my knees were scraped but one of them was bleeding. I didn't want to get blood on the skirt I was wearing (it wasn't mine) so I ran into the house and dabbed it with toilet paper. That didn't help much. So, I went and asked Mrs. C. (her last name is classified. LOL) and asked for a band-aid. Mrs. C. Got out her big first-aid kit. Now, all of the mothers who were around were asking, "Are you okay, sweetie?" I soon had a band-aid on and went back outside. No one asked about why I had left or if I was okay. That was a bit disappointing. Oh, well...
This guy showed up to show us how to line dance. He said, "Anyone who would like to learn, please come up here." I didn't go up there. I just watched for a while. It didn't look too hard. I finally decided to try to dance. It was a lot harder than I thought. I really stunk at it. They went so fast, I just couldn't keep up! I finally stopped.
After I proved how terrible I am at line dancing, they got out the games that we usually play at teen game night--pool, ping-pong, and foozeball. (I am the queen of the foozeball table, whether I win or not.) Then it was time for karaoke(?!). Caleb, who was sitting close by, asked me, "Are you going to karaoke?" I said, "No!" He said, "Do you sing?" (How did he know to ask that question?) I answered, "Yes." "What kind of stuff do you sing?" I fumbled around, not sure how to answer. I finally asked, "Have you ever heard of Barlow Girl?" "Yeah." "I sing that." "Oh, really." He seemed genuinely interested. We had no more time to talk, though, because Mrs. Sheree said, "All right we're going to do karaoke!" First, though, we all voted on who was the best-dressed boy and girl. I finally decided on Chaz. Although, we were allowed to vote for ourselves, I didn't think that would be right. I voted for one of the Melissas. Chaz won best-dressed for the guys and--Guess what!--I won the best-dressed for the girls! (That's what the picture is above--Chaz and I.) I was very happy.
After that we did karaoke. Daniel went up and did the song that says, "MAN! I feel like a woman!" That was so funny. After a while they ran out of people who wanted to sing so they pulled Jeremy and Caleb up and had them do a Christmas song (I was told they can't sing well). They just lip-synced it and were trying to hide behind each other because they were so embarrassed. Then Melissa, Melissa, and I were pulled up there (I'm not sure how Erica got out of it). We did the "YMCA". Now, it was our turn to be embarrassed. I knew more of the song than the other two girls did and they kept looking at me, like I was the leader or something! I only know small parts of the song! Well, I had a wonderful time and that's pretty much what happened. I better go. I love you all!
Sincerely,
Cat
