A purpose, a cause

I was looking through my blog posts and found this in my drafts. I was 16 when I wrote this. Any thoughts? I pretty much feel the same way now as I did then and am not sure I have made much progress.
----

I feel something awakening within me
A purpose
A cause

I want to change the world

Wake people up

Sound the alarm

People are hurting and the world is dying

Wake them up before it's too late

Too late to save the world

Wrists are slit and hearts are broken

Can't sit by and do nothing

Have to help

Can't do nothing

Have to help

Can no one else feel it?

Can no one else sense this urgency?

An urgency to fight that which is not flesh and blood?

Corruption and depression

Selfishness and lies

Can't act like everything's okay

Like it's all hunky-dory

We can have fun but how much is too much?

...

Let's just write a fun story

Sing a fun song

Fun can be fun but the world needs help

They're dying out there

Help them!
What am I saying?
I don't know
I'm sixteen
And a bit confused about this
How to help?
Sing a song?
Write a story?
Say "hello"?
I don't know
What to do?
What to say?
How to live?
Why
Why
Why

Cloning

I got a book from the library called "Flesh of My Flesh"--a collection of essays, etc.--about the ethics of cloning. (I'm sure you do that kind of thing all the time! LOL)

As I've been reading and thinking (mostly thinking) about cloning, I was reminded of the tower of Babel. (If you don't know it, read Genesis chapter 11.)

It reminded me of the ATTITUDE of the tower of Babel. In Genesis 11:4-8 in the NKJV of the Bible, it reads,

"And they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.'
......

So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city."

It's the attitude of "let us make a name for ourselves" that gets me. It wasn't the building of a tower in itself. It was our attitude and that we were united enough to do anything we wanted (even things we weren't supposed to) [Genesis 11:6].

Cloning isn't new--it's not just some element of science fiction. In 1996, Dolly was cloned and since then other animals have been cloned. Why? I think one of the biggest reasons is because we CAN or maybe just to show that we can--when we put our mind to it.

Apparently, Dolly isn't the only animal that has ever been cloned. I read here (an article on Wikipedia about Dolly) that horses and cattle [I think] have also been cloned.

I guess I'm surprised we've been allowed to clone at all, you know? I'm thinking, if there was another time for God to come down and confuse us, wouldn't it be because we tried to create animal or human life through unnatural means? Yes, I know this kind of thing can get pretty technical and I'm not sure where the line is that shouldn't be crossed (cloning cells, etc).

I know this isn't a fun/happy post but I would REALLY appreciate your comments on this subject!

Thanks!

It doesn't matter how you FEEL--it's what you DO that matters

Thought I'd explain my thoughts on my title. I heard it in a Superchic[k] song and thought it was an awesome thing to say.
-----
When you're feeling fearful but you DO something that overcomes that fear--then you've done something courageous [making you courageous]. In history books, most of the time you won't read where it says "and he felt"--it's "and he did such-and-such". "He went to battle" or "he conquered such-and-such". I'm sure nearly all the time, the great men of history who did something no one had ever done before or went and conquered or defended something, they were really scared but they didn't allow it to hinder them from doing what they wanted or had to do.
----
Maybe you're FEELING tired and don't want to do something but if you do it anyway, you'll feel more accomplished.
----
Maybe you're feeling too afraid to say something, even though it's the right thing to do, because you're afraid of what someone or everyone will think. If you do it, though, you'll feel proud that you did the right thing and maybe people won't think how you thought they would.
----
This saying can be applied to smaller things like over-eating, cleaning/picking up after yourself, exercising, etc. There have been a couple times when I didn't feel like doing something and thought of this saying and it kept me going. Now, if I could just remember it all the time, that'd be grand!

Any thoughts?
