Cloning

I got a book from the library called "Flesh of My Flesh"--a collection of essays, etc.--about the ethics of cloning. (I'm sure you do that kind of thing all the time! LOL)

As I've been reading and thinking (mostly thinking) about cloning, I was reminded of the tower of Babel. (If you don't know it, read Genesis chapter 11.)

It reminded me of the ATTITUDE of the tower of Babel. In Genesis 11:4-8 in the NKJV of the Bible, it reads,

"And they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.'
......

So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city."

It's the attitude of "let us make a name for ourselves" that gets me. It wasn't the building of a tower in itself. It was our attitude and that we were united enough to do anything we wanted (even things we weren't supposed to) [Genesis 11:6].

Cloning isn't new--it's not just some element of science fiction. In 1996, Dolly was cloned and since then other animals have been cloned. Why? I think one of the biggest reasons is because we CAN or maybe just to show that we can--when we put our mind to it.

Apparently, Dolly isn't the only animal that has ever been cloned. I read here (an article on Wikipedia about Dolly) that horses and cattle [I think] have also been cloned.

I guess I'm surprised we've been allowed to clone at all, you know? I'm thinking, if there was another time for God to come down and confuse us, wouldn't it be because we tried to create animal or human life through unnatural means? Yes, I know this kind of thing can get pretty technical and I'm not sure where the line is that shouldn't be crossed (cloning cells, etc).

I know this isn't a fun/happy post but I would REALLY appreciate your comments on this subject!

Thanks!
