"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." ~Colossians 2:8 (New King James Version)
(above: John Locke)
I always wondered why there are certain words that we're not supposed to say [aka cuss words]. I figured it was because as Christians it just didn't seem right to do that. But yesterday, I think it was, I found this verse in the Bible.
"But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth." ~Colossians 3:8 (New King James Version)
That still leaves me to wonder what makes a word "filthy" but now at least I know there's a basis for it.

The Ideal Christian Family
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
~Colossians 3:18-21 (New King James Version)
