If We Are the Body...

I love this song. I listened to it some weeks ago and it reminded me of the story I'm writing [Lexicon], specifically one of the main characters--Nikky. She's so selfish/self-absorbed that she doesn't notice or really care about those around her--even her "best friend". She doesn't notice or care enough to try to help those around her.

I'm sure most of us--if not all--are like Nikky to a certain extent and, yes, I'm including myself. I mean, sometimes [or many times] we just get so wrapped up in what's going on in our little bubble and how we get from point A to point B without thinking or even looking at the people around us. I want to work on this more myself. If you were to stop and say ONE kind word to ONE person, you could make that person's entire day.
You know, I've kind of wondered, if someone were considering suicide and you were to take the time to say something kind to them--could you possibly stop them from leaping off a building or slitting their wrists without realizing it? I just wonder like that sometimes...

So...here are the lyrics to "if we are the body" by Casting Crowns.

-----------

It's crowded in worship today
As she slips in
Trying to fade into the faces
The girls' teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know
Farther than they know

CHORUS
But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way
There is a way

A traveler is far away from home
He sheds his coat
And quietly sinks into the back row
The weight of their judgmental glances tells him that his chances
Are better out on the road

CHORUS
But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the Body of Christ

Chorus (2x)
If we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus is the way

That's a great post, Cat... great stuff for everyone to think about. Yes, a smile, or kind words, or a hug can make someone's day, what I've needed to realize recently is how much I need to be encouaging like that towards my siblings. Somehow it's easier to be encouraging like that to my friends, or complete strangers, but my family is just as important!

Blessings&Prayers,
Sprite

I definantly agree, I have found myself becoming more and more worried about myself than others around me.
